Skateboarding and music legend

In 1989 the legendary Ray Barbee joined the Vans family just as the world was seeing his classic Powell Peralta Ban This part for the first time; skating was never the same after that. The fluidity and style Ray exuded in that part was nothing short of poetry in motion; it is still regarding as a time capsule example of what skating should look like.

Ray extended his talent and creativity as a music writer and multi-instrumentalist, while he can play guitar, bass guitar, drums, harp and xylophone. He released his debut EP on Galaxia records in 2003, Triumphant Procession, a collection of jazz-influenced instrumental tracks which Ray produced and engineered at home. In March 2007, Ray Barbee recorded in Japan with the Mattson 2. That recording became Ray Barbee Meets The Mattson 2, a collaboration melding the guitar/drums of the Mattson 2 with Ray Barbee playing additional guitar.

Ray is also known for his live performance solo work using looping delay pedals and drum machines. His music has been featured on NPR and has been used in a number of surf videos.
